In this session Mike Sharp will delve into the intricacies of lead test kits, exploring those approved by the EPA and their evolving role in identifying lead-based paint (LBP). The presentation covers a history of chemical test kits, including 3M LeadCheck™, D-Lead®, and the State of Massachusetts test kit, highlighting their limitations and uses. The session will also examine the implications of EPA recognition, the impact of 3M discontinuing LeadCheck in 2023, and what it means for professionals in the field. Attendees will learn the legal considerations surrounding lead testing for grants and loans, as well as how these kits can serve as useful tools in various scenarios, from risk assessments to post-abatement screenings.
